0.2 M Sodium Phosphate Buffer pH 7.4 is a commonly used buffer prepared by mixing sodium phosphate monobasic and sodium phosphate dibasic in a fixed ratio to obtain the desired pH and strength. This solution is extensively used for dilution and washing during various biological applications as it maintains the physiological pH and osmolarity. Phosphates have a very high buffering capacity and are highly soluble in water. They inhibit many enzymatic reactions and procedures of molecular cloning. The phosphate groups of this buffer help to maintain a constant pH.
