Gentamicin Solution (50 mg/mL) is a sterile, ready-to-use antibiotic preparation containing gentamicin sulfate dissolved in tissue-culture grade sterile water. Gentamicin is a broad-spectrum aminoglycoside antibiotic that exerts its bactericidal activity by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit of susceptible bacteria. This interaction disrupts protein synthesis, causing misreading of mRNA and inhibition of translational initiation, ultimately leading to bacterial cell death. This solution provides broad-spectrum antibacterial protection against a wide range of Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, including Pseudomonas, Klebsiella, Escherichia coli, and Staphylococcus species. Gentamicin is routinely used in mammalian cell culture systems to prevent bacterial contamination during cell maintenance, media preparation, and routine aseptic handling, helping to preserve culture integrity and experimental reproducibility

Application

Gentamicin Solution is used to supplement cell culture media to prevent and control bacterial contamination in mammalian, insect, and plant cell culture systems. It can be used alone or in combination with other antibiotics, such as Penicillin–Streptomycin, to provide broader antimicrobial coverage and enhanced protection against mixed microbial contamination.
