Background |
Calprotectin concentration is an established biomarker that allows clinical decision-making in patients with suspected or confirmed inflammatory bowel disease. Faecal calprotectin levels correlate significantly with clinical or endoscopic disease activity in inflammatory bowel diseases.In health, calprotectin harbours immune-regulatory functions that are crucial for immune defence such as neutrophil chemotaxis and chelation of multiple divalent metal ions. |
