| Description | Broad-spectrum, water-soluble aminoglycoside antibiotic gentamicin sulfate is used in cell culture. Numerous gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria can be killed off using it. Gentamicin Sulfate Solution in Ready-to-Use Form, 10 mg/ml Concentration, is Frequently Used to Prevent Bacterial Contamination in Cell Cultures.
First, the fungus Micromonospora purpurea was used to purify gentamicin. It works by attaching to the bacterial ribosome’s 30S subunit, which prevents the production of proteins and causes bacterial death in sensitive micro-organisms. In molecular biology applications, gentamicin sulfate may also be utilized as a pick antibiotic.
